胰岛是的内分泌部分，是许多大小不等和形状不定的细胞团，散布在胰的各处，可控制碳水化合物的代谢，如胰岛素分泌不足则患糖尿病。胰岛能分泌胰岛素与胰高血糖素等激素。人类的胰岛细胞按其染色和形态学特点，主要分为α细胞、β细胞、γ细胞及PP细胞。α细胞占胰岛细胞的20%，分泌胰高血糖素；β细胞占胰岛细胞的60-70%；分泌胰岛素；γ细胞占胰岛细胞的10%，分泌“生长抑素”；PP细胞数量很少，分泌胰多肽。
