Betacellulin,也称为BTC蛋白,在人类中由4号染色体上4q13.3区的BTC基因编码。该基因编码的蛋白质是生长因子EGF家族的一员。它主要作为一个跨膜前体被合成,通过蛋白水解作用加工成成熟的分子。该蛋白是EGF受体的配体,与EGFR、ERBB4和其他EGF受体家族成员结合。同时它也是视网膜色素上皮细胞和血管平滑肌细胞的有效的有丝分裂原。 数据表明,BTC通过内皮细胞中EGF受体的激活、有丝分裂原活化的蛋白激酶和磷脂酰肌醇3'激酶/蛋白激酶可有效促进血管生成。
